Asian Immigrant Women Advocates ("AIWA") is a non-profit community-based organization in Oakland and San Jose founded in 1983 to address the needs and concerns of low-income Asian immigrant women workers in the Greater Bay Area. For over 20 years, AIWA has been deeply committed to developing the grassroots leadership of low-income immigrant women and youth, to demand dignity and justice in their living and working conditions. 


DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (Full-time)

AIWA is currently seeking an articulate and highly organized Development Associate who has a demonstrated enthusiasm for major donor fundraising and is committed to working toward justice for immigrant women to join our friendly, creative and successful team.

The Development Associate will work with AIWA staff, peer leaders and consultants to enhance the fundraising capacity of the organization and support AIWA's mission and programs, especially in the design and implementation of a multi-year major donor fundraising plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Vision: Work with organizational stakeholders to package and market AIWA's cutting edge vision around grassroots leadership development: Work with the Executive Director to create the annual case statement for the year's initiatives that will serve as the platform for all major gifts, annual fund, and Legacy Campaign efforts. Design and manage small events such as house parties, donor cultivation presentations, and donor recognition events
  • Assist the Coordination: Coordinate all aspects of AIWA's individual donor fundraising efforts to ensure positive communication between donors, allies, organization board, peer leaders, staff and volunteers: Manage the Legacy Campaign's day-to-day operations and logistics; assist in supporting the campaign leadership in their fundraising efforts; assist with the preparation of the development program budget and monitor allocation of resources according to budgetary limitations; maintain the donor database.
  • Develop Cultivation Strategies: Guide and enhance the positive relationship-building between donors, allies, board members, peer leaders staff and volunteers: Assist the Executive Director, Board Members, and Legacy Campaign Steering Committee in cultivating donors and planned gifts, and conducting follow-up efforts; develop and maintain a prospective donor tracking program; write direct mail appeals; demonstrate a willingness to travel and/or work with a flexible schedule which may include evening/weekend hours as necessary.
  • Support AIWA's Organizational Development: Support AIWA's programs and organizational growth through cooperation, participation and documentation: participate in staff meetings; work with program coordinators to ensure sufficient support for fundraising efforts; develop monthly progress reports and other internal reports as necessary to synthesize organizational programs and activities; represent AIWA at

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in designing, managing, and coordinating donor/prospect research, cultivation, solicitation and recognition/stewardship activities and programs
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans
  • Excellent written and verbal (presentation) skills and an ability to communicate effectively with staff, board members and donors
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in all matters and to treat all organizational development business with discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and cultural competency in work with diverse ethnic groups and immigrant women, and an understanding of AIWA’s mission and work
  • Two to three years of work experience in development with a track record of success, preferred
  • Working knowledge of best practices in the fundraising areas of major giving, annual giving, planned giving and donor research, cultivation and stewardship highly desired.
