SlideshowAsian Immigrant Women Advocates (AIWA) was founded in 1983 in recognition of the needs of low-income Asian immigrant women. AIWA’s mission is to empower low-income, limited English speaking Asian immigrant women workers to stimulate positive changes in their workplaces, communities and broader society.

AIWA works with women workers employed in the garment, hotel, restaurant, electronics assembly and other low-wage industries in Oakland, San Francisco, and Santa Clara County’s “Silicon Valley”. AIWA seeks to empower women through education, leadership development and collective action, so that they can fight for dignity and justice in their working and living conditions.

HELP US AND DONATE TO A GOOD CAUSE !!

AIWA offers computer classes to approximately 50 low-income immigrant women per year but our computers are ancient after almost 10 years on the job. If you or your company are looking to upgrade your systems, and may be interested in donating your old computer(s) to a good cause, please to contact Maria. All donations are tax deductible and we will pick up the computers from your facility.

To accommodate the special software we use for our classes, we will accept, iPods, iPads/tablets and donated computers should be working PCs (desktop or laptop) with the following:

  1. Processor: minimum 1.8 Ghz
  2. RAM: minimum 2 MB
  3. Hard Disk: minimum 100 GB
  4. Optical Disk Drive: CD-ROM
  5. Pointing Device: USB mouse
  6. Keyboard: USB keyboard
  7. Interface Ports: Ethernet, USB (multiple), parallel
  8. Integrated Wireless Network Adapter: included (minimum 801.1 G)
  9. Power Adapter: Included

No monitors are needed and thank you for supporting the immigrant women!
